According to its site, Grindr now prides itself in being “the world’s largest social networking app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people.” Excuse me, social networking? I didn’t think sending a picture of your dick to 50 strangers online counts as social networking.īesides the weird sense of self-denial and apparent brand confusion, Grindr has had several off-putting fiascos in recent years, like when they got caught sharing users’ HIV status with other companies, or when the former Grindr president wrote on Facebook that he believes “marriage is a holy matrimony between a man and a woman.” I’m annoyed how the app everyone clearly uses for hook-ups is trying to brand itself as something more wholesome.
Like every queer man I know, I have been “over” Grindr for years.
